Over the summer, children may find themselves becoming bored without classmates or schoolwork to keep them occupied. This summer, that boredom may be magnified as many have stayed home for distance learning during the entire school year. With the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County Boredom Busters, parents can ensure that their children remain productive and happy during summer break.

“In this age of instant gratification through technology, with streaming services beaming feature films into the palm of our hands, it can seem like boredom is a heavy burden to bear. But it can truly be a blessing,” said Cultural Arts Coordinator Casandra Tanenbaum. “Boredom can create an open window of fresh air in the midst of a stale routine and provide a perfect opportunity to explore new hobbies and skills.”

Now that the world is slowly but surely transitioning into normalcy, ways to keep children active this summer have become much easier. Creating a routine, trying new hobbies, setting summer goals, and tackling a new project are only a few ways to avoid summer boredom. Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County’s BGCatHome website is another great way to keep children productive with a variety of virtual activities.

BGCatHome is designed to be a boredom-busting resource for kids in grades K-12, full of activities, games, and windows on innovative and exciting projects happening all around the world. When visiting the website, parents can choose whether they are looking for resources for a child or a teen and visit the various spaces in our virtual club experience to enjoy activities and links for young students.

“Even little ones can learn something about what they like and dislike through occupying themselves in a safely supervised manner,” said Tanenbaum. “After all, there’s a whole world waiting to be explored!”
