Successful 34th Annual Golf Tournament Benefits the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club
$58,000 Raised for Children of Wellington
WELLINGTON, Fla. (October 19, 2015) – The Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County (BGCPBC) hosted the 34th Annual Wellington Golf Tournament to benefit the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club of Wellington on Saturday, October 10, 2015 at The Wanderers Club. The tournament raised $58,000 for the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club.
On a beautiful Saturday morning, 140 attendees participated in the golf tournament festivities. Prior to golfing, participants were treated to breakfast, courtesy of Whole Foods Market Wellington and Kennesaw Juice. Attendees also had an opportunity to participate in a raffle and putting contest.
There was no shortage of entertainment on The Wanderers Club state-of-the-art golf course. BGCPBC invited Rocket Launcher and Krank Drivers out to provide a twist to traditional golf. If players decided to purchase a super ticket, they had the chance to participate in longest drive and closest to the pin contests to try to win $100.00 credit to The Wanderers Club Pro Shop. There was also a hole in one contest with the chance to win a $500 VISA gift card, a Kindle Fire, a set of Nike 2.0 Covert Irons and/or a $10,000 cash prize. There were also several stations presented by Whole Foods Market Wellington, Tito’s Handmade Vodka and LongHorn Steakhouse that provided food, snacks and beverages.
After golfing, attendees headed back into the clubhouse, being greeted by members of the Neil S. Hirsch Boys & Girls Club of Wellington. The event concluded with a luncheon where the Club members performed an African dance, sponsors of the event were recognized and the awards were handed out. Coming in second place was the team consisting of Marc Ganzi, Grant Ganzi, Nic Roldan and Darren Marotta and taking the first place trophies home were Elliot Bonner, Nick Chillemi, Vince Chillemi and Cliff Carrol.
The 34th Annual Wellington Golf Tournament would not have been possible without the support of the committee. Ed Portman, a long-time supporter of the Club, was named Honorary Chairman. Co-Chairman were Todd Barron, Elliot Bonner, Ray Mooney and Mickey Smith. Three committee members, Shelley Blaine Goodman, Jim Bomar and Julie Kime also played key roles during the planning process. Co-Chairman, Mickey Smith, stated, “Ed Portman has tirelessly and successfully chaired this tournament for 34 years. For the past couple of years, many others of us are stepping up to help him. We stand on Ed’s shoulders, and we are so happy this was the best tournament to date. I say to date, as next year’s tournament will be even bigger and better.”
The golf tournament would also not have been possible without the support of this year’s sponsors. The gold sponsors were International Polo Club and Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith. Orchard Hill Polo was the underwriter of the golf polos and hats. Silver sponsors included B/E Aerospace, Deloitte Tax, LLP, Destiny International Properties, Inc., Ernst & Young, Pricewaterhouse Coopers LLC and The Barron Group at UBS Financial. Whole Foods Market Wellington was an in-kind silver sponsor and finally, LongHorn Steakhouse was the award sponsor.
Raising nearly $58,000 in the 34th Annual Wellington Golf Tournament is a huge success and a record high. President & CEO of BGCPBC, Jaene Miranda says, “There is no better way to kick off our 2015-2016 event season! The Wellington Club has two great events left…the Wellington Dinner Dance on January 8 and the Great Futures Polo Day of March 13. The golf tournament was just a start to a successful year for the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club.”
Proceeds from the day’s events benefit the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club s of Wellington, one of 13 Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. The Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Club emphasizes educational, vocational, social, recreational, health, leadership, and character building skills in a positive and safe atmosphere. Through quality programs, the Club experience provides children with the guidance they need to make a healthy transition from childhood to young adulthood.
