Show House Designers Meet Club Members

Ten Florence De George Boys & Girls Club Garden Club members visited the Kips Bay Decorator Show House Palm Beach on Thursday, February 17, to help transform the sculpture garden with plants. The Kips Bay Designer Show House Palm Beach 2022 Landscape Designer Robert Bell and several other interior designers helped the Club members plant their plants in the perfect spot. Currently, the Show House, located at 3001 Spruce Avenue, West Palm Beach, Fla., is in the final stages of its transformation. Both the garden and interior and exterior rooms will be completed for opening day on March 4th. Despite the looming deadline, the designers took time to meet with the Club members who will benefit from the funds raised by the event.

“Inspiring kids is most important because that is how I started with my career as a landscape architect. Seeing things like this inspired me. To show people new ideas and different points of view is the entire point of the Kips Bay Show House,” explained Bell.

Bell’s talents and design will be on full display as he is in charge of reimagining the entire lawn of the stately 1920’s era property. It includes a sculpture garden with a modern sculpture that mimics the leaves of the plants that Club members planted. Currently, only about a quarter of Bell’s design is finished. He admits the fast-approaching deadline is stressful but also extremely rewarding.

“The rest of the garden will be finished in the coming days. We will be ready for opening day! The hard work is worth it to show guests how you can turn your outside space into somethingvery special and a space that will make you want to stay outside and enjoy. This experience with the children has been the best part of the Kips Bay Show House experience,” said Bell.

Several interior designers joined Bell with assisting the Boys & Girls Club members. They ventured outside while putting their interior work on hold to meet the Club members who are benefiting from their hard work and the funds raised by the event. Barbara Lewis is in charge or designing the large primary bedroom closet, and she jumped at the opportunity to meet the children because it is another way to give back to the Clubs.

“It should always be about giving back. This is Kips Bay. It’s about giving back and giving back to the children,” explained Kips Bay Designer Show House Palm Beach Primary Closet Designer Barbara Lewis.

The ten children who visited the Show House before its completion will have a chance to see the house fully finished. Bell requested that the children get to see the garden fully finished and see how their plantings helped to create a magical spot in the garden.

The Show House attracts 15,000 visitors each year, and all proceeds benefit Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County and Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club.  The Clubs offer innovative after-school and enrichment programs for more than 21,000 youth, ages six through 18 in 17 Clubs across Palm Beach County and ten locations throughout the Bronx.  Opening day for the Show House is Friday, March 4. The Show House is open to the general public from March 5 through April 3. Tickets must be purchased in advance.
