September STEM Celebrations

September has been a thrilling month of STEM exploration across Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County!

At Max M. Fisher, 4th and 5th grade Club members explored Video Game Design. They learned how computers follow instructions through code and programmed a mini computer called a micro:bit. Using these foundational skills, members built simple games inspired by classic favorites like Super Mario Bros. Through this hands-on experience, youth strengthened critical thinking by analyzing problems, evaluating options, and coding creative solutions. They also developed time management and digital literacy skills as they planned projects, met deadlines, and navigated coding platforms. These are all essential skills for future academic and career success!

In our Robotics Certification track, Club members applied game design principles and coding logic to build and test interactive programs. These projects fostered problem-solving, organization, and tech fluency, preparing these Club members for future pathways in engineering, software development, and digital innovation.

At the Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton, both Elementary (4th–5th) and Teen members participated in Makerspace: Physical Computing. Participants earned certification by designing and building mini computers with integrated circuits that produced working, interactive outputs, such as blinking LED lights and music. Teens enhanced communication skills through active listening and idea-sharing, demonstrated adaptability and resilience by troubleshooting setbacks, and practiced collaboration and teamwork by supporting each other and working toward shared goals.

Across all programs, our Club members are building college and career readiness, gaining real-world experience in coding, engineering, communication, and creative problem-solving. These skills will serve them in high-demand STEM fields and beyond!
