Empowering Young People to Succeed

The Career Bound program, serving members in middle and high school, utilizes a case management approach to help members: identify career goals; acquire skills and aptitudes needed to submit competitive applications to post-secondary educational institutions; acquire workforce-readiness skills; increase leadership skills through service learning; and obtain paid employment at one of our Boys & Girls Club locations inclusive of training and coaching. Through this experiential program, youth will be introduced to high growth industries including, but not limited to, the Culinary Arts, Healthcare, Finance, Science, Engineering, Technology and Math.

To help young people meet the workforce challenges of tomorrow, they need safe spaces, positive mentorship, and work experiences today. At Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm beach County, we allow kids and teens to:

21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTERS

Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County works with school administrators and certified teachers so students with the greatest need for academic assistance are encouraged to participate in the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) initiative.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County works with school administrators and certified teachers so students with the greatest need for academic assistance are encouraged to participate in the 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) initiative. This is a key component of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). It is an opportunity for students attending low performing schools to enhance and reinforce academic lessons of the regular school day, while allowing them to learn new skills and discover new opportunities.


Tutorial services and academic enrichment activities are designed to help students meet state academic standards in reading, writing and math and are delivered by Florida certified teachers. Plus, 21st CCLC programs provide families educational and literacy services as well as provide youth development activities like, drug and violence prevention programs, technology education programs, art, music, physical fitness, counseling, and character education to enhance the academic component of the program.

Power Hour

POWER HOUR

Power Hour is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s homework help and tutoring program targeting members aged 6 to 18 years. The goal of Power Hour is to increase academic success to better prepare Club youth to enter the workforce and higher education institutions with the skills needed to compete globally.

Power Hour is Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s homework help and tutoring program targeting members aged 6 to 18 years. The goal of Power Hour is to increase academic success to better prepare Club youth to enter the workforce and higher education institutions with the skills needed to compete globally.  

Designed specifically to help kids and teens with homework, this program is available after school at Clubs. Dedicated youth development professionals and volunteers supervise each session and help youth members complete their assignments for the day. When they finish their work, they may choose to participate in a variety of other engaging and educational activities to develop their skills even further.

The Power Hour materials provide practical tips and best practices for recognition and incentives, behavior management, volunteer recruitment and training, collaboration with other organizations and use of technology and the Internet.

Through Project Learn, Club staff use all the areas and programs in the Club to create opportunities for these high-yield learning activities, including leisure reading, writing activities, discussions with knowledgeable adults, helping others, homework help, tutoring and games that develop young people’s cognitive skills.

Through Project Learn, Club staff use all the areas and programs in the Club to create opportunities for these high-yield learning activities, including leisure reading, writing activities, discussions with knowledgeable adults, helping others, homework help, tutoring and games that develop young people’s cognitive skills. Project Learn also emphasizes parent involvement as well as collaboration between Club and school professionals.

Money Matters

MONEY MATTERS

Money Matters promotes financial responsibility and independence among Club members ages 13 to 18. Participants learn how to manage a checking account, create a budget, save and invest, start small businesses and pay for college.

The Money Matters website helps teens build their money management skills through interactive activities, games and tools such as a savings and financial aid calculator to help them plan for college.


Financial education programs do make a difference in preparing teens for their future. Most of our teens report that Money Matters helped them become smarter about money.

CAREER LAUNCH

CareerLaunch encourages Club members ages 13 to 18 to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions and prepare to join our nation’s work force.

CareerLaunch encourages Club members ages 13 to 18 to assess their skills and interests, explore careers, make sound educational decisions and prepare to join our nation’s work force. Club staff or volunteers help teens build their job-search skills and job readiness by using the CareerLaunch Facilitator Guide. They also work with teens individually or in small groups. Club teens, staff and volunteers explore careers, and search for jobs and college information. Mentoring, job shadowing and training opportunities round out the program.

IMPACT ON OUR YOUTH

One hundred percent of our members participate in our Academic Programs leading to an improvement in their science, math, and reading grades at school. Nearly all students (78%) reported receiving mostly A’s and B’s on their report cards. Further, students have greatly increased their knowledge of STEM disciplines. In fact, BGCPBC teams consistently come in the top three places in national Zero Robotics competitions.
