The Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County is proud to announce that its Club in Wellington, the Neil S. Hirsch Boys & Girls Club, has received the Florida Department of Education’s 21st Century Learning Centers program grant (21st CCLC).  With the addition of the Wellington Club, all of its 20 Clubs are now supported by 21st CCLC funding.

The 21st CCLC grants are funded for a period of four years, with awards issued annually. Continued funding each year is contingent upon successfully meeting the approved performance expectations and demonstrating effective program implementation.

“We couldn’t be more excited for our Wellington Club to receive this grant as this support will significantly enhance the Club’s ability to meet the academic and developmental needs of the youth in the Wellington community,” said Jaene Miranda, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.  “This grant is designed to support a total of 120 students from Wellington Elementary and Emerald Cove who attend the Boys and Girls Club during afterschool hours and summer programs.”

With this funding the Neil S. Hirsch Family Boys & Girls Clubs in Wellington will:

  • Be able to hire five certified teachers to provide daily homework help, tutoring, and Project-Based Learning (PBL). PBL will enable members to develop crucial skills by engaging in extended projects that require critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity.
  • Support academic field trips to enhance learning experiences outside the classroom. These trips will include visits to museums, science centers, universities, and other educational venues, providing students with real-world connections to their studies and broadening their horizons.
  • Fund additional professional development for staff, ensuring they receive ongoing training and support to enhance their skills and effectiveness in delivering high-quality education and enrichment programs.

The 21st CCLC program with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County focuses on providing academic enrichment opportunities for children in high-poverty, low-performing schools. It helps students meet state academic standards in core subjects like ELA and Math and offers a range of impactful enrichment activities that complement academics. These include Social Emotional Learning, Cultural Arts, Health and Wellness, college and career readiness, and educational services for families.
