Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County’s Great Futures program hosted its first virtual college fair giving students and families the opportunity to connect with various colleges, universities, and college-alternatives. Over 50 institutions and career representatives, both in-state and out-of-state, attended to share information on their different programs, degrees, and options for financial support. The virtual college fair was especially essential for students and families who may have otherwise missed other opportunities during these difficult times.
“This kind of access to a university is not common nor easy, especially given our current circumstances. This was a great opportunity for students to find the right college for them and learn more about what they have to offer,” said Great Futures Club Director at Forest Hill Community High School Elizabeth Garno. “I believe students benefitted from this experience, and I hope that by bringing the universities and college alternatives directly to them, we continue to build excitement around building their future after high school.”
Students and family members were able to take away important resources and tools to prepare for their college careers and life beyond high school. In addition, each participant had the chance to speak one-on-one with a representative from three of their top school choices to receive further guidance.
Great Futures is designed to provide students with the necessary resources to help them build their futures and reach their fullest potential. The program is a division of Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County that serves four major Palm Beach County High Schools including Forest Hill Community High School, Lake Worth Community High School, John I. Leonard High School, and Santaluces Community High School. A 21st Century Community Learning Centers’ grant funds the newly created program. Ultimately, the purpose is to support students in on-time grade progression and high school graduation, to increase college and career readiness, and to engage students in service-learning.
