Summer Camp Offers Academic Support and Fun

Summer camp at Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County promises to be a wild good time! This year’s theme for the full-day camp is “Into the Wild.” Camps will follow COVID safeguards, but will also look and feel more normal as the CDC relaxes guidelines. Returning this year, with great excitement from Club members, will be field trips.   Some of the field trips planned at the individual Clubs will follow the theme with visits to the Palm Beach Zoo, Lion Country Safari and many more adventures.

It’s important that the Club members have an enjoyable camp experience after a difficult year where many were isolated from their peers. It’s also incredibly important that Club members receive extra academic help during the summer to help mitigate what’s called the “COVID slide.” Due to distance learning obstacles, most children are behind in key educational benchmarks. A recent study done by leading universities found that on average children are 1/3 behind where they should be. For some Club members, the COVID slide is even worse with Club staff noting the past academic year was a total loss for families who struggled with distance learning.

As a result, 60 certified teachers working inside the Clubs will be utilized this summer to help regain some of the lost ground. A back-to-school drive is also ongoing to ensure that all Club members will have a new backpack full of supplies needed to be successful in the fall.

Spaces are available for summer camp, but they are filling up quickly. To learn more contact the Club you would like your child to attend. Click here for a list of all of the Palm Beach County Clubs.
