In a powerful response to national NEET (Not in Education, Employment, or Training) data and as part of an ongoing effort to support academic success and career exploration, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County hosted its annual College Tour. This was an immersive experience designed to introduce teens to a broad spectrum of post-secondary pathways.
This initiative is deeply rooted in the mission of Boys & Girls Clubs of America and is thoughtfully aligned with three of its core national programs: Money Matters, Diplomas to Degrees, and Career Launch. These programs are integrated into school-year and summer camp experiences, ensuring continuity of learning and exploration year-round.
Participation in the 2025 College Tour was open to teens from all 20 Clubs across Palm Beach County. However, the opportunity was not handed out lightly. Each interested Club member was required to complete a Student Application, including essays articulating their desire to attend. These applications were carefully reviewed by Club leadership, ensuring that participants demonstrated both readiness and commitment.
Parental involvement was a key element of the process. Dedicated meetings were held to walk families through travel plans, logistics, and communication tools, including access to a private parent portal. This collaborative approach helped create a strong support system both before and during the journey.
This year’s tour took students to colleges and universities in both Atlanta, Georgia, and Tallahassee, Florida. Beyond walking the campuses and sitting in on sessions, teens had a unique chance to visit the national headquarters of Boys & Girls Clubs of America in Atlanta where they met President Jim Clark.
The experience extended beyond academics. Club members took part in a kickball tournament and teen social hosted by Metro Atlanta Clubs, fostering new friendships and peer connections. As an added bonus, their visit coincided with the MLB All-Star Game festivities near Truist Park, offering an exciting glimpse of the city’s energy and culture.
The 2025 College Tour was a transformative experience. By placing teens in real college environments and surrounding them with trusted adult mentors, the Tour expanded their vision of what’s possible after high school. As the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County continues to guide youth toward brighter futures, programs like the College Tour will remain essential in shaping the next generation of learners, leaders, and professionals.
