On Wednesday, May 23 at 5:30 p.m., the Center for Child Counseling will conduct interactive workshops at Florence De George Boys & Girls Club for members and families of Boys & Girls Clubs in Riviera Beach and West Palm Beach. The workshops are part of Mental Health Awareness and Trauma Informed Care Month.

Dinner and drinks will be served and a meet and greet will be held before the workshops begin. Jaene Miranda, president and CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County (BGCPBC) will be signing a proclamation supporting the month.

“According to Mental Health America, one in five youth experience serious mental illness and about half of them do not receive the necessary treatment to address their needs,” stated Miranda. “This is a disturbing statistic that we must tackle through workshops like this in order to helping our children identify ways to deal with stressful situations.”

Promoting mental health and wellness leads to higher overall productivity, better educational outcomes, and improved family life among other matters. BGCPBC is a participating member of the Healthier Together initiative and a member of the Get Your Green On movement which aims to raise awareness by creating visible support (by wearing green on May 24) and fostering safe spaces to talk openly about behavioral health and trauma.
