Boys & Girls Club Alumnus & Area Director Accepts CEO Position in Annapolis
Another Successful Club Alumni Emerges From Palm Beach County

West Palm Beach, FL (April 8, 2014) – Steve Cornette, Area Director and former Club member at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County (BGCPBC), recently accepted a CEO position at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County.

At the tender age of 9, Cornette joined the Boys & Girls Club of West Palm Beach in 1991. As a young man, he was very active in the Club and participated in many academic and athletic programs. After graduating from University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Cornette returned to Palm Beach County and began his career with the BGCPBC as a Social Recreation Instructor at the West Palm Beach Club. He quickly advanced to club director of the Naoma Donnelley Haggin Boys & Girls Club in Delray Beach, and then to directing the West Palm Beach Club. Cornette was promoted to Director of Club Operations and Alumni Relations in 2013, overseeing the Marjorie S. Fisher, Max M. Fisher and the Florence De George Clubs.

His former Club Director remembers Cornette fondly. “Steve was such a great kid to have at the Club. He was always incredibly helpful and he loved playing basketball. It’s been wonderful to watch him grow up at the Club and then serve right here in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County,” said Dennis Carpenter, Director of Club Operations at the BGCPBC.

Cornette will oversee six clubs at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County (BGCAA) in Maryland. BGCAA reaches more than 2,200 youth every year in four Annapolis Clubs, and Clubs in Pasadena and Severn and shares the mission of all Boys & Girls Club organizations to inspire and enable young people.

“The Boys & Girls Clubs was an extraordinary place to work. This organization transformed and redefined me, both as a member and then as an employee. I love this company for all that it’s done for me over the years, and I will miss everyone dearly. I look forward to partnering with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Annapolis & Anne Arundel County and continuing my career with the Boys & Girls Club movement,” says Cornette.

“Steve is a shining example of an alumnus that positively flourished within the Boys & Girls Clubs, and the effective training provided to Club personnel to allow them to advance in the organization,” said Wally Turner, Chairman of the Board of Directors at the BGCPBC. “One statistic that sums up the effectiveness of Clubs comes from a Harris Interactive survey of Club alumni, in which 57 percent said, ‘the Club saved my life’. That testimony speaks volumes about the positive impact the Club staff has on the lives of our kids.”

Jaene Miranda, President & CEO at the BGCPBC, echoed Turner’s statements. “Steve has a great commitment to improving the lives of children and providing them with growth and opportunities through the Boys & Girls Clubs,” said Miranda. “The BGCPBC wish Steve great success as he leads the team at Annapolis & Anne Arundel County. We are grateful for his years of service and his devotion to the movement.”
