Through positive learning experiences and enrichment activities, Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County provides Club members with various outlets to express their creativity and emotions, especially now more than ever. As a result, Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton has been selected to participate in the Boca Ballet First Step Program this Spring. Twice a week Boca Club members have the opportunity to learn about the art of ballet and modern dance at the Boca Ballet Theatre, led by Outreach Program Director Dennis Lue.

“This opportunity is so great particularly for our energetic dance members who absolutely love dance and movement, ” said Cultural Arts Coordinator Casandra Tanenbaum. “Dance training is very important in developing coordination and elevating performance, athletics, academics, and life.”

Through this hands-on program Club members are provided resources, such as dancewear, dance shoes and transportation at no cost to ensure that they receive the ultimate professional dance experience. Every Tuesday and Thursday, members are able to explore the many fundamentals of dance and challenge their natural curiosity in a positive and energetic environment. Children learn the importance of discipline, healthy living and confidence through various ballet techniques and exercises.

The Boca Ballet First Step Program launched in 1999, and since 2006 the program has been sponsored by the Vegso Family Foundation. The program provides disadvantaged children in the community with an interactive dance experience that may not otherwise be presented to them. For students who may choose to advance in their technique and pursue a dance career, the Boca Ballet Theatre provides a 4-year dance scholarship throughout their high school years.
