Bike the Keys Challenge Supports Florence De George Club

200 miles. 2 days. 200 kids in need.  1 bus. That’s the mindset and goal for the cyclists who will do the near impossible for most of us. During the last weekend in April the cyclists Jack O’ Shea, Anthony Frison, Yann Parrot and Zack Marcoux will start in Key Largo, Fla. and bike to Key West, Fla. and back! This is the third year of the event and the second year that the fundraiser has supported Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.

“We’re directly helping more than 200 children in need get reliable transportation to and from critical after-school care. The money raised by our bike ride will help purchase a new bus for the Florence De George Club,” said Jack O’Shea. “We are so excited to be able to make a difference once again this year.”

The Florence De George Boys & Girls Club in West Palm Beach, Fla., has been using an old and often broken down bus to get students to and from after-school programming.  This Club’s bus is critical to ensure that students can access the programing they need as nearly 100% of students served by the Club do not have access to transportation.   Since the old bus was unreliable, it could not be driven on the highway, and as a result, several schools could not be added to the bus route. This resulted in nearly 90 Club members not being able to attend the Club. Thanks to a jumpstart in fundraising, the new bus recently arrived at the Club, but more than $80,000 needs to be raised to pay for the bus.

“We are grateful and in awe of the bikers taking on the challenge of cycling the Keys in a weekend and for helping the Florence De George Club raise the crucial funding for the new Club bus,” said Vice President of Corporate Partnerships and Marketing of Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County Eric Roby. “Last year the cyclists met the children at the De George Club and they fell in love with the children and the Club’s mission. This year it was important for them to be able to help the same children. The bus is a great way to make sure all children who want to attend the Club are given the opportunity to do so.”
