Tennis Tournament Serves Up Fabulous Fundraising Event

Tournament Benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton

BOCA RATON, FLA. (February 11, 2015) — Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton held its Annual Tennis Tournament at the Boca Raton Resort & Club on Sunday, February 8, 2015. The annual gathering aids in raising money for the continuous reach of programmatic needs to more than 100 at-risk youth who attend the Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton.

Over 35 players, of all skill levels, participated in the doubles round-robin tournament while the Blackman Tennis Academy held a kid’s clinic for the Club members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Boca Raton. Participants got to bid on fabulous auction items such as a weekend stay at the Boca Raton Resort & Spa, tennis gear, a Michael Kors bag and more. The event ended with the crowning of this year’s champions, Gayle & Charlie Springfield in the recreational division and Joe Prado in the competitive division.

The event raised a record breaking $20,000 for the Club. “Having well surpassed our initial goal of $15,000, I was ecstatic to be a part of it,” said Judy Bond, event co-chairman. “I am so pleased with the outcome and the time and giving of the Boca Raton Resort & Club, all for the benefit of the Club members at the Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton.”

The Tennis Tournament was fortunate to have Mr. Howard Guggenheim and Samson Asset – Rappaport Family as Grand Slam Sponsors and John & Judy Bond and Merrill Lynch – Cappeller Marko Group as Passing Shot Sponsors.

Leading the charge this year, were co-chairmen Marta Aislant and Judy Bond and committee members Martin Blackman, Bill Cappeller, Jane Fatigati, Kathryn Gillespie, Gil Koppel, Brett Maynard, Catherine Rappaport, Erik Silver, Nancy Wilkinson and Scott Williams.

Proceeds from the tennis tournament will benefit the Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton, which is located at 300 Newcastle Street. The Club provides a safe haven for more than 100 children ages 6-18 during non-school hours. The children participate in Club activities, which include computer training, job skills development, leadership workshops, homework assistance and tutoring, sports and fitness programs, fine arts and performing arts classes.
