From her beginnings as a Club kid in Puerto Rico to her current role as an Enrichment Instructor at Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County, Sharimar Rodriguez is a shining example of giving back to the organization that helped shape her.
After moving from Arecibo, Puerto Rico to Palm Beach County in December 2023, Sharimar knew she wanted to inspire the next generation of dancers. She joined Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County as a Dance Instructor for Summer Camp 2024, sharing her passion for movement with members at the Max M. Fisher Club, Conniston Middle School, and the Florence De George Club.
Although she began dancing at 18 years old, Sharimar never initially considered a career in the creative arts. Today, she uses her journey to encourage Club members to explore dance, whether they see it as a career or simply a passion.
“Dance helps you to be more responsible and teaches you etiquette. It also makes you a more well-rounded person,” said Sharimar.
For her, working at the Clubs is about more than teaching choreography, it’s about supporting members in every way she can. From answering questions to listening to their stories, Sharimar sees herself in the youth she serves, remembering the mentors who once guided her.
“I remember when I was a Boys & Girls Club kid, my instructors helped me go through a lot of stuff… and it made me realize that I can help these kids,” she shared.
The Clubs continue to shape Sharimar’s own growth as well. Working with children and teens of different ages has given her new perspectives, strengthened her patience, and offered valuable lessons she carries forward in her dance career.
We are grateful to have Sharimar as part of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County family, and we are proud of the impact she is leaving on a new generation of Club kids.
