Cultural Arts

Providing cultural enrichment.

Numerous programs utilize the arts to address issues related to youth culture. Collaboration with multiple sectors of the community provide innovative and challenging cultural enrichment for young people.

These programs endeavor to assist youth in understanding themselves and their world while exploring individual creativity and self-expression. Artist-driven programs play a major role, engaging regional artists in projects that challenge both the artists and their young collaborators. Each year, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County host a variety of programs and workshops in many media ranging from fine arts, theater, music and dance. A sampling of the programs is highlighted below:

This emerging podcast program allows teen members training in recording arts and sound editing as well as broadcast journalism techniques.  Coached by staff and mentor volunteers, members create their own 10 episode podcast series in which they interview local career professionals, young athlete scholars and community leaders on topics of interest to teenagers today.

Arts Instructors on staff provide projects and opportunities to expand and build skill in drawing, painting, sculpture and mixed media artworks, and member work is entered annually into Regional And National BGCA Fine Arts Competitions.

Members learn from professional and amateur photographers to create and curate portraits of their daily lives and explore their curiosity about the cultures all around them.  Members  build photographic books and participate in the annual BGCA ImageMakers competition which includes a juried show presented in partnership with Florida Atlantic University Galleries.

Our member dance teams perform at schools and competitions throughout our region.  Led by staff instructors, members explore lyrical, contemporary and percussive dance styles and enthusiastically learn movement as a form of personal expression.  Members also engage in aerobic dance forms led by staff to expand personal fitness and wellness practice.
