This month, our staff attended the FAU Stiles Nicholson Brainwaves 2026 Research Symposium where they explored innovative STEM education. More than just STEM, this symposium aligned strongly with Cultural Arts and Health and Wellness topics. During the breakout session, Both Sides of the Brain: An Artistic Approach to STEM for All Teachers, showcased how STEM concepts such as hydrogen bonding, polarity, and chemical reactions can be reinforced through artistic processes. Participants explores how materials like metals, ceramic, polymers, and composites function as art substrates connected to scientific principles. This interdisciplinary activity blended analytical thinking and creative expression to support holistic learning.

Overall, the Research Symposium highlighted educator-led research on brain-based learning and the rapidly growing influence of artificial intelligence on creativity, critical thinking, and ethical classroom use. Discussions during the Symposium emphasized supporting neurodiverse learners by reducing cognitive loads through strategies that build confidence and strengthen workforce readiness skills such as problem-solving and task management.
