DE GEORGE CHARITABLE TRUST GRANTS BIG WISHES FOR BOYS & GIRLS CLUB AT 2014 WINTER BALL

The Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George Charitable Trust granted many wishes this February. At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County’s Winter Ball, Larry De George chose to underwrite the entire wish list of needed items for the Florence De George Boys & Girls Club in West Palm Beach, to the tune of $275,000, to include a new bus, furniture, new flooring and even a new air conditioning system.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the De George family tree. The late Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence De George, founders of the Charitable Trust and true philanthropists in the Palm Beach community, donated 2.25 million in 1998 for the creation of the Florence De George Boys & Girls Club in the Northwood neighborhood. The facility is 34,000 square feet and serves hundreds of children each week.

The Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George Charitable Trust has supported Boys & Girls Clubs both in Palm Beach and in Broward County for years, as well as many other charitable efforts. Because of its ongoing gifts, literally, thousands of children are now in Boys & Girls Clubs today.

The Lawrence J. and Florence A. De George Charitable Trust believe deeply in the potential of youth – even those from the most disadvantaged circumstances – so much so that they continually invest in it.

Michael De George said, “We have not found a better way of fulfilling the mission of our charitable trust than sponsoring the work of the Boys & Girls Clubs.”

This year’s Winter Ball was the most successful and raised a total of one million dollars for the Clubs – the first million-dollar event in the organization’s history.

“It’s amazing how much money was raised at this year’s Winter Ball. The De George Charitable Trust’s gift especially is so significant to the Club, said Victor Rivera, Chief Operating Officer at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. “Purchasing a brand new bus will enable us to bring more children into the Clubs and be able to transport them home safely.”

The Florence De George Boys & Girls Club is located at 4105 Pinewood Avenue in West Palm Beach. It is open five days a week from 2-8 pm during the school year and on Saturdays from 10 am-2 pm. During the summer, spring break, winter breaks, and teacher planning days, the Club is open from 7:30 am-6 pm.
