Club Members Excel with Boca Ballet’s First Step Program

Recital (3)

After six months of learning, practicing, and training in the art of ballet and modern dance, Club  members from Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton  showcased their skills at an exciting presentation at Boca Ballet Theatre on Saturday, June 12. Family, friends, and the Boca Ballet Theatre faculty gathered to celebrate and witness the growth of each Club member.

“These students have grown tremendously through the course of the First Step program. Over the course of these past few months I have watched shy kids blossom into stars and dance with confidence and pride,” said Cultural Arts Coordinator Casandra Tanenbaum.

Club members presented a variety of ballet exercises learned throughout the First Step program to demonstrate their newly developed techniques and skills. After thoughtful remarks made by Boca Ballet Theatre Executive Director Dan Guin, Club members performed a dance to Disney’s The Lion King original Broadway cast recording, I Just Can’t Wait To Be King. The presentation ended with a pizza party, allowing Club members to celebrate with their families and the Boca Ballet Theatre members and faculty.

“The end of program presentation was so well done,” said Tanenbaum. “I couldn’t help but beam beneath my mask. Each student did a fantastic job and they worked together as one unified team.”

Twice a week Boca Club members had the opportunity to learn the art of ballet and modern dance at the Boca Ballet Theatre, led by Outreach Program Director Dennis Lue. Through this program, Club members received dancewear, dance shoes, and transportation at no cost to ensure that they received the ultimate professional dance experience.

Not only were Club members able to experience the world of ballet and modern dance, but gained discipline, confidence, and skills to carry them throughout their lives. Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County is thrilled to continue its partnership with Boca Ballet Theatre, to continue the creative and emotional development of the most deserving children in Palm Beach County.
