Over 90 members from across our Glades sites participated in the second installment of Solar Fare, a six-week, hands-on STEM experience where learning never tasted so good! Over the course of this program, members built solar box cookers using recyclable materials to apply teamwork and engineering design skills. The program culminated at the Smith & Moore Family Teen Center, where participants showed off their culinary talents in a quest to be crowned the S’more Supreme Chef!

Throughout the program, Club members strengthened their understanding of how to harness solar energy using materials that transmit, absorb and reflect the sun’s light, while building essential workforce skills such as collaboration, critical thinking, and problem‑solving through the engineering design process.
This event was made possible through the support of Club leadership, Club Director Mr. Williams, and the sponsorship of the University of Central Florida – Florida Solar Energy Center. We also thank our collaborators and judges from the University of Florida IFAS (4‑H), Daniel, and FPL Electrical Engineer Richard, as well as the Florida Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, including Robert and Scott, for supporting STEM education, career exploration, and hands‑on learning. Through this partnership, teachers in the Glades region are receiving Energy Kits to enhance classroom instruction.
