2022 Bike the Keys Challenge
Help more than 200 children attend the Club everyday.
Donations pay for the new Florence De George Boys & Girls Club bus!
200 miles. 2 days. 200 kids in need. 1 bus.
The Bike the Keys Challenge is an annual 200-mile charity bike ride in the Florida Keys, raising money for Boys & Girls Club of Palm Beach County. In this 3rd annual charity event, we’re directly helping more than 200 children in need get reliable transportation to and from critical after-school care – by buying a bus.
Why a bus?
The Florence De George Boys & Girls Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, has been using an old and often broken down bus to get students to and from after-school programming. This school bus is critical to ensure that students can access the programing they need as nearly 100% of students served by the Club do not have access to transportation. Since the old bus is unreliable, it can not be driven on the highway, and as a result, several schools can not be added to the bus route. This created a waiting list of more than 90 children to attend the Club.
The 2022 Bike the Keys Challenge is seeking to raise money to help purchase a new, safe and reliable bus. It will eliminate the waiting list for children to attend the Club so all can have access to the Club’s life-changing programs. The new bus will also create a more comfortable and air-conditioned ride (critical for South Florida summers), and allow members to know that they too deserve the same amenities as their peers.
Why after-school care?
Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County helps more than 10,000 children every year with award-winning programming and a mission to ensure all young people reach their full potential. The Clubs are much more than a safe and loving space for children to go after school. On staff are 110 certified teachers, art professionals, STEM experts and mental health professionals to make sure all children graduate on time and with a plan for the future.
In short, this bus is crucial in allowing members to have a safe space to be when their parents cannot be with them. Without the bus, most members would be forced to go home to an unsupervised, empty home after school. Our goal is to help these children in our community receive the Boys & Girls Club programming that they deserve so that they too can be successful.
