The De George team made their comeback with a late free throw to take the championship win.

Safety is the number one priority of Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. Added precautions were taken during the entire tournament to ensure the safety of players and Club staff. Precautions included temperature checks before games, strict adherence to mask wearing, frequent mask changes during the game and even rule changes to the game to limit contact and exertion.

Despite the extra work and necessary changes, the tournament was important for Club members to start creating a sense of normalcy and recovery after a year of sacrifices. Cancelation of such events have been extremely difficult for many children.

“A lot of us know what sports and competition do for developing youth,” explained Sports, Fitness and Recreation Coordinator Richard Schmitz. “It’s so much bigger than the game itself! We are creating strong men and women to be the faces of our communities and competitive sports play a big role in strength of character, integrity and compassion.”

Extra congratulations goes to the tournament’s MVP: Terrance Burse Jr of the Florence De George Boys & Girls Club.
