Great Futures Members Celebrate All Cultures During Festive Event

Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County Great Futures members embraced all cultures during a festive event celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. During the event, Digital Vibez filled the room with cultural music as attendees danced and enjoyed empanadas, pan de bano, and other treats provided by El Bodegón. Members, families, and faculty wore fabulous, colorful clothes to represent their countries of origin. Many Great Futures members performed dances as others sang and danced along. Thanks to Coca-Cola, 10 Great Futures members received laptops during the event: 3 went to the students with the best attendance, 3 went to seniors with the best attendance, 3 were raffled off to students who participated in planning the event and the final laptop was given to a student chosen through teacher nominations.

Members discovered that by immersing themselves in other cultures beyond their own, they can learn about each other, where they came from and what their traditions are. It allowed the members to see beyond their daily  lives and practices.

“It is so important that our students do not lose the connection to their countries of origin and that they feel safe to share their cultures with others,” stated Amy Pages, 21st CCLC Program Director. “I was truly impressed with the excitement and participation of our Lake Worth members and staff. Ms. Daisy, the Lake Worth Club Director, and her team of teachers created a celebration of cultures, community, and life!”
