Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County in conjunction with The Florida Alliance of Boys & Girls Clubs (FLABGC) and the Florida Department of Children and Families (FDCF) hosted their last in a series of community health awareness events. Led by qualified facilitators, the sessions were an opportunity to educate our Club members, their families, our staff, and the community at large on opioid substance misuse. Topics discussed included the myth vs facts about drug use, commonly misused prescription drugs and the different types of treatment available.
Other topics addressed included:
• How to recognize opioid overdose symptoms
• The importance of calling 911 to get help for a person in need
• Understanding the disease of addiction
• How addiction impacts the individual and their family members
“These important programs provide our Club members with the knowledge and skills to build and maintain healthy behaviors and lifestyles. In Palm Beach County we want to be living, breathing examples of what it means to stay healthy. Developing life-long skills is what we hope for all our kids.” said Kyle Hunt S.E.L. Program Manager, Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County.
