The Carrier STEMulated Minds projects exclusively offered inside Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County have begun their latest session entitled Drone Missions. Club members were “Cleared for Launch” as they become immersed in a world of drone aviation. The drone project is part of a year-long program, and is based around flying various missions with different models and types of drones. Elements built into the program are designed to steer Club members towards a potential future career focused on science, technology, engineering, or math (STEM) fields.
STEMulated Minds includes various modules and initiatives that focus on STEM and are divided according to age group and skill level. Every activity is about affording each participating member opportunities to learn and excel at their own pace and level without the fear of failure. Over 120 Members from seven Clubs are currently participating in flying critical missions to survey, support and distribute supplies via a variety of gamified scenarios, all while learning coding operations, safety, navigation and pilot skills. The innovative and highly interactive program was made possible with a grant by Carrier. The summer STEMulated Minds Drone Missions will culminate in an aerial drone competition later this summer, bringing all of the participating Clubs together for a legendary showcase!
“We welcome every opportunity to keep our members excited about science, technology, and math,” said Jaene Miranda, President & CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County. “As we continue in our mission of inspiring and assisting young people to realize their full potential; Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County is grateful to have Carrier’s continued support.
