Members Take Giant ‘First Step’ with Boca Ballet Theatre

2022 First Step Program

Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County members performed in a spring recital showcasing their technical dance skills in front of a packed house of friends, and family on Sunday, May 22nd. Nine Club members from Boys & Girls Club of Boca Raton performed with student instructors from the school of Boca Ballet Theatre. The performance showcased a ballet warm-up routine, high-flying grand jetes and original choreography from Boca Ballet Theatre and Harid Conservatory dance instructor Dennis Lue.

“Watching the students transform over the course of this year has been phenomenal,” said Cultural Arts Program Manager of Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County Casandra Tanenbaum. “Their performance alongside the students of Boca Ballet Dance was a true delight and a great opportunity for each participant to shine.”

This partnership program is one way Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County celebrate arts in education every day. The arts have always been a safe haven for our club members; a place where they can express their true selves. The focus throughout the program was on providing high-quality arts instruction and mentorship.  Boca Ballet Theatre: First Step aims to enhance the youth development landscape of South Florida and to help participants demonstrate and apply critical and creative thinking skills. Our Member’s experience focused on the benefits of healthy living; as well as exposure to dance from various cultures and historical periods, which promotes understanding and tolerance.
