Summer Camp registration is full steam ahead at 17 Boys & Girls Clubs in Palm Beach County as parents need to act quickly to reserve their child’s spot. CBS12 recently toured a Club to see how this year’s camp will be different due to continued pandemic safeguards. Club members will still need to follow social distancing rules, surfaces will continue to be sanitized, but more members will be allowed to participate this year and there will be a return of some field trips.
Hollie Booker, Boys & Girls Clubs of Palm Beach County grant compliance manager, told CBS12 that the summer camps will be designed for the children to have fun, but the program won’t waste the time away from the classroom by using 60 certified teachers to help reduce the achievement gap caused by the pandemic.
“It has widened the achievement gap that existed before so it’s very important to have the academic programs in order to allow students to be prepared for the next grade and help catch them up,” Booker said.
